I’m not Important
Hey guys and gals,
First off I’d like to say a big hello to you all H-E-L-L-O. Some of you know that for the last two weeks I had no broadband internet or phone. I know it sounds like hell right?, well that’s what I thought it turns out dial-up and no phone is a good thing kinda like that plain girl in school you liked but never made a move on, then 7 years later while your shopping at 3am in your slippers for Freddo frogs to feed your sugar addiction you see her in the frozen food section and she is now smoking hot! (so hot want to touch the heinie)
Now don’t get me wrong traveling to my mums house to use dial-up Internet everyday for 2 hours was still terrible (sorry mum) but It’s what I had to do to survive literally! I pay for my bills, rent, freddo frogs and everything else from the websites and revenue streams I have set up in the last 3 months.
So you can imagine my grief when I lost my phone and Internet for 2 weeks due to a technicality from changing providers and the long Easter holiday phone companies take.
How am I going to make my regular income over the next two weeks and more importantly buy freddo frogs so I can insulate my rock hard abs with blubber so I’m ready for winter in 3 months.
So what happened over the next two weeks.. NOTHING!! I made the same money I always did!
I’ve been back online with super fast broadband for 4 days and working 8 to 10 hours per day and I’m still making the same money I did working for 2 hours per day on dial-up at my mums place.
what does this mean?
Well it means I’m not Important for 6 hours per day!! it means I’m spending 6 extra hours per day online and not making any extra money.
I’m doing this because even though I work from home in my Transformers Pajamas my brain tells me to spend a minimum of 8 hours a day in-front of the computer like everyone else does! Seriously how many hours of solid work do you do per day? 2, 3 or 4
Well I found out yesterday from a bit of research checking my emails and going over my day I do two hours of solid work per day… 2 hours wtf?
That’s the same time I spent at my mums place on dial-up Internet for 2 weeks! It just so happens that if you give yourself 2 hours per day instead of 8 to get things done they do! we really don’t do as much as we think we do in those 8 hours.
As I mentioned I’ve had my Internet back for 4 days so the next course is underway! I know some of you are waiting and it won’t be long now.
Have yourself a wonderful day and see you soon.

Imagine if you could do 8 full hours of solid work every day. Just think about it. *Brain asploads*

What about the girl m8 ?
No seriously i know the feeling of doing something that takes 2 hours in 8 hours because of all the distractions around you.So much to see on the net so the job stays undone until you have 2 hours to finish it. I think it’s in our nature to be lazy and wait with things untill last minute.
You know that the next course whenever it is finished will get my “hard earned” money
Cheers

Hey Trevor,
that would be awesome! or do something else for those six hours.. like reading a book or going out for a nature walk.
Hey Tray,
A girl would be nice mate
It was funny to find out that I really only need to work 2 hours per day and I can be as productive as I normally am in 8 hours. We all think we have to work 8 hours per day but we really don’t. It’s the same when developing websites in hours not weeks. I don’t spend weeks on building websites anymore. I usually just put them together in one day nowadays with the advent of cool frameworks and other technologies you’ll see in the next course.

Leighmac, sorry I am offtopic but there is a way I receive a email when you release the new tutorial ? Something like a newsletter …

Hey “Liggy”!
I’m glad your internet is back! How fast is it? Mine only runs at 1.58 Mbps, 193 KB/s slooow.
LOL Leigh you can say the funniest things! I’ve actually never heard of those Freddo Frogs
Looking forward to the next lesson!

Can’t wait for the new course mate. If it’s definatly the framework one, then out comes the money. I find when i’m sitting on the pc it feels like an hour has passed when infact 2 or 3 have passed.
I never work non-stop, ill always be browsing forums and so on while working, but I can say whenever I’m in the house i’m on the pc. I’m not much of a tv watcher, only watch it when I climb into bed at night.
Just shows how much you can’t leave your internet when you travel a long way to use dial-up of all things.

Hey Marius,
I’ll be sending out an email to all forum members my friend. If your a member you’ll recieve an email.
Howdy Comspy,
my internets are about 1.5 like yours but i do have 256k up speed.. that is fast to me
Freddo frogs are amazing! I love the king size ones.. if you ever come to Australia you’ll have to get some mate.
Hey GenSwat,
gee whiz you work heaps! I can remember a time where i used to work 12+ hours per day. When I sit down to record I work that many hours but building applications is so much fun to me.. it’s not even like work.
Hey Jon,
It is a framework mate
I used to do the same thing! it turns out we all have a wall that holds us back that wall is TIME! we give ourselves to much time.
I found this out from recording the courses I’ve done this year. I say to myself right you have half an hour to show people how to do this and then i do it.
Giving myself mini timelines and easy goals allows me to build all those applications on camera in under 6 hours.
I have no super powers but i do have 7 years of experience building apps in PHP and I’m hoping this intermediate course will open the doors for you guys! let you feel less stressed and more productive.

Hehe i’m feeling you with the 2 hours thing.Happens to me every time. When i’m designing or programming i get into a ‘frenzy-like’ state that usually takes 1- 1.5 hours. Then if something goes wrong and i go to search the web for a solution i end up forgetting what i was initially searching for. Thank GOD for creating dead-lines otherwise i would end up working 1 month on a basic application.
Great job with the tuts, even if i consider myself beginner to intermediate level i’ve enjoyed watching everyone of them ( some even helped me remember things i forgot ).
I’m looking forward for the tutorials on frameworks.Keep up the good work!

May you tell us how much it will cost the next tutorial ?
April 7th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
“May you tell us how much it will cost the next tutorial ?”
Whatever the cost, anything under $99 would be well worth it
April 9th, 2008 at 12:00 pm

Hey Mike,
You are not alone, I used to really feel the pressure and I would try so hard and it always comes back and hit’s you in the face, Since i stopped trying hard my work has improved.. I just go with the flow and ride the bumps.
Hey Trevor,
It will be well under $99 dollars.. but thanks for saying that mate! also we have to catch up about your week.. I’m not sure what happend to you mate.. whatever it was i’m guessing it was not nice.. from your forum post
Hey Revlyn,
I was up last night on xbox live.. i only played one game though. It would be great to play you. I don’t own COD4 but my brother does. I should go and borrow it from him.
Hey Morf,
cool would be great to play with you guys!! I’ll make a post in the forum.
April 12th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Are you going to do a video on version control?
April 12th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Hey thewatcher,
I’m a big fan of subversion and i’ve used it for a couple of years. But It won’t be covered in this first course. I don’t want anyones brain to explode with all the new info they have to digest. This first course will be very simple and then we can build on it.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I guess this proves the 80/20 principle right. 80% of your work and/or money comes from 20% of your work time. . .kinda satisfying to know, really.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:18 am
I cannot wait anymore
!
Pls tell me when is ready the lesson about frameworks ? I just cannot wait anymore… I want to leeeeaaaarnnnn .
And btw, insist more in SEF ( friendly urls ), I mean make them something like /cat-name.html and /cat-name/id-name.html ( /posts/this-is-the-title.html ) . It is so important for me and for the others I think.

All we have at this point is a “soon”, which is a relative measurement of time, so we really have no idea when the bossman is releasing his next tutorial. I reckon it will take about 3 days to upload, it being this long!
April 25th, 2008 at 2:33 am
Hey guys,
It is coming trust me I won’t let any of you down. I’ve read through most of the API testing things and playing around the last couple of weeks. It had to be done.. I’ve been coding in Rails and Django for so long it was strange moving to a PHP framework even though I know PHP better than Ruby and Python.
I used this framework 2 years ago to build 2 websites but a lot has changed and I wanted to make sure I had a good understanding of what the new features are and how to use them. I feel I do now.. I feel very excited to record this course it’s a big step for our growing community.
April 25th, 2008 at 7:02 am
If u are working on a framework that u used two years back then definitely its not zend framework. I guess we will be learning cake. Coz it resembles more to rails.

I love you Leighmac - I really love you. You dont understand how confused i was before i listened to your videos. Not only did your lessons enlighten me on PHP but your voice kept me engaged. My attention span is very low so i need a voice that can keep me engaged while making sense.
Cant wait to see a lesson on how to connect the database created in phpadmin to one’s website. I build my websites using Microsoft expression. My confusion is how do i link the two.
I am trying to create a research database - huge undertaking for a very un technical person but since you made me understand the first two lessons. i will understand the rest.
You rock!!!! Mari New York City

Hi Leighmac,
I have been wanting to experiment with PHP and MySql for a while now but have never found a helpful way into it. Until now…
Your videos have me laughing, crying, groaning and pulling all kinds of faces but best of all - I am actually learning how to do what I thought was just plain impossible.
I appreciate the time you take to gradually bring the viewer from a to b. It helps out people like me who find techy things so frustratingly difficult to understand.
Many thanks indeed - I am so looking forward to more of your lessons and paid course ‘kits’. Well done!
